Diamond Paste

Diamond Paste – precise polishing for defined surfaces

We manufacture diamond pastes, among others, for on-site (portable) metallographic preparation, tool and mold making, and precise surface finishing. Compared to suspensions, diamond paste adheres more strongly to the polishing tool. You can dose precisely, condition new polishing cloths cleanly, and achieve reproducible results – from 45 µm down to 0.25 µm.

Product features

  • Grit sizes: 0.25 | 1 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 15 | 45 µm (industry-standard gradation, extended)
  • Diamond types: polycrystalline (many cutting edges, fast stock removal) and monocrystalline (narrow particle size distribution, defined finish)
  • Carrier medium: water/oil system for glide and even distribution
  • Packaging: syringes with color-coded cap and label by grit

Applications

  • Metallography/material testing: steels, non-ferrous metals, alloys
  • Ceramics/carbides: technical ceramics, carbide cutting edges
  • Optics/glass: defined high-gloss finishes
  • Mold and tool making: polishing of functional surfaces

Advantages over diamond suspension

  • Higher local diamond concentration on the cloth/carrier
  • Better adhesion on polishing cloths and discs
  • Precise dosing with a clean process window
  • Ideal for conditioning new cloths

Grit and color coding

  • 45 µm – rough stock removal/initial polish (Blue)
  • 15 µm – pre-polish/levelling (Red)
  • 9 µm – intermediate polish (Orange)
  • 6 µm – fine polish (Green)
  • 3 µm – high gloss (Yellow)
  • 1 µm – final fine polish (White)
  • 0.25 µm – mirror finish (Grey)

Note: The color codes on the caps allow quick identification and help avoid cross-contamination by mixing up paste closures.

Lubricants

  • Lubricants: water-/oil-based additives for a consistent polishing track

Technical specifications

  • Syringe sizes: 5, 10, 20 g
  • Storage: 5–35 °C, dry; close the syringe after use
  • Diamond types: mono- or polycrystalline, tightly controlled particle size distribution
  • Diamond concentrations: K10 (light; poly only), K25 (medium), K50 (standard), K100 (extra high)

Application examples

  • Sample types: iron/steel, Al/Ti/Mg, Cu alloys, ceramics, hard metal (carbide), glass
  • Example polishing sequences:
  • Standard: 45 → 15 → 9 → 6 → 3 → 1 µm
  • High-gloss finish: 9 → 3 → 1 → 0.25 µm

Practical tips

  • Prime new cloths briefly with 15 µm paste
  • Dosing: a small dot per cloth segment is sufficient
  • Lubrication: sparing, even; select the medium to match the cloth
  • Process control: keep pressure, time, and rotation speed constant
